Griskelis Young Harrell worked closely with the congregation, alderman and community to create a Master Plan and Planned Development for First Evangelical Free Church.
Located on ten city lots in the Andersonville Neighborhood of Chicago, the original church property was an assemblage of residential properties attached to the main Sanctuary Building.
Phase I of the Master Plan was completed in 2008 and included a new 14,000 s.f. Family Life Center. This facility connects with three other buildings to provide much needed narthex space, K-12 classrooms, a nursery, adult seminar space, and multi-purpose/recreation space for congregational and broader community use.
This project was a finalist for the 2008 Richard Driehaus Foundation Award for Excellence in Community Design.
Subsequent phases will include: renovation of the existing Sanctuary, creation of new church offices, additional multi-purpose space, a gymnasium, and sub-grade parking.
