Little remained of the original interior of the much-renovated, 150-year-old University Hall when GYH was selected to reconstruct this beloved Northwestern University landmark. The exterior could not be modified, due to the building’s historic status, but the 35,000 sf interior was gutted for re-use. GYH inserted four tiered-seating, multi-media equipped classrooms, faculty and staff offices, a new egress stair, an accessible elevator, and new mechanical systems into the existing shell. Historically sensitive finishes were employed in public areas using old photographs and fragments of existing millwork for reference.
