Part of a series of renovations to the below-grade Concourse level of 401 N Michigan Avenue, the Pine Street Kitchen occupies a long, narrow space between existing escalators and a tenant wall. The two zones of the café – marketplace and dining – each have distinct personalities, but are tied together with common finishes. The windowless, lower level space is enhanced by extending finishes beyond into the common corridor and by playful touches, such as the up-lit Chicago skyline graphic that interrupts the acoustic bamboo plywood wall in the dining area and wraps up to form a “sky” above.
