The John Marshall Law School, now UIC Law, purchased an existing three story building adjacent to its campus with the goal of expanding the space available for and visibility of existing legal clinics as well as to provide room for anticipated program growth.
The First Floor is dedicated to the School’s Veterans Legal Support Center and Clinic. GYH designed open office space and interview space to take advantage of new large street-facing windows and provide natural light as well as display the work of the clinic to passersby. Colors, finish selections, and room orientations were selected with the needs of veterans that may be suffering from PTSD in mind. Upper floors were renovated and repaired to receive uses as the School grows. Planning and structural reinforcement was done so that a roof deck and events pavilion can be built in the future.
GYH designed a seamless connection to the School’s existing Student Commons as well as a new entrance lobby and street presence on Jackson Boulevard.
This project has received LEED NC Silver Certification and was honored with a Chicago Vision Award from the Urban Land Institute.
